Dear Friend of Ujima Journey:
Ujima Journey of the Capital District is seeking help from foundations, corporations and individual donors in sponsoring Capital District youth on an educational trip to African-American cultural heritage sites including museums, colleges and historic sites.
Founded in 1995, Ujima Journey has organized and sponsored journeys of discovery for more than 550 local students. The trips help us teach children about the rich cultural, political, intellectual and business accomplishments of their ancestors. Our hope is to build a better understanding of African-American contributions to American society and our ongoing struggle. This, in turn, will build pride, confidence and ambition to succeed among our youth.
We are undertaking a unique, four-day journey with a total of 30 to 40 boys and girls, ages 7 to 15. Our past tours have taken students to the African Burial Ground in NYC, Great Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore, Howard University (a member of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities), Egypt on the Potomac and the new Museum of African-American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
We encourage students to raise funds through car washes, sidewalk sales and other activities that will help with their personal development. The trip will run from August 6 to 9.
The total cost of the 2025 trip will range from $15,000 to $20,000, depending on the number of participants. This amount includes all transportation, admission fees and hotel rooms for the group.
Please keep in mind that Ujima Journey of the Capital District is an all-volunteer organization. We have no offices, salaries or other administrative expenses to support. A full 100 percent of your donation will be used for the journey.
Ujima Journey is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization based in the City of Albany. Thank you for your time and you consideration of this exciting opportunity. We look forward to welcoming you to the Ujima Journey family.
Warmest regards,
Aaron Carter, President
